Surrogate key
Let's say you're an independent voter. The mid-term election's getting close. You need to make a choice. The candidates bring surrogate campaigners to your town. Who's going to influence your vote the most?
This poll says more people would go with a candidate backed by Bill Clinton. He's the only one with more positives (45 percent) than negatives (41) among all voters. President Obama (39-49) and Sarah Palin (37-51) have higher negatives. As for independents, Clinton scores highest with 47. Obama gets 31, and Palin a lowly 24.So none of them are very popular with independents. They might be best used to help a candidate turn out their base. With four months to go to the finish line, the Fox News poll has mostly good news for Republicans. Except for one quirk -- more independents now say they're "more likely" to vote for Dems than the GOP. That makes me think it'll come down to who is most interested in turning out to vote in the election. So we're back to that "turning out the base" factor again.Read the full story on the poll here.
