Tropical Storm Bonnie Near Florida Keys, Gaining Speed

Heading Into Gulf Of Mexico On Friday

POSTED: 7:16 am CDT July 23, 2010
Tropical Storm Bonnie is moving over the Florida Keys on Friday morning, with sustained winds of 40 mph and gusts up to 50. The storm is speeding up, and will head into the Gulf of Mexico later on Friday into Saturday. Since it is a fast moving storm, it will most likely remain as a tropical storm and will not gain enough strength to become a hurricane (winds of 74 mph). The latest forecast models indicate that the storm will move northwest through the Gulf of Mexico, and will be near New Orleans by Sunday morning. Maximum sustained winds when the storm makes landfall will be near 50 mph.

The storm will head into central Louisiana on Sunday afternoon and will most likely bring the ArkLaTex heavy rain Sunday through Monday.
