Should Cheerleading Be Considered A Sport?

A federal judge has ruled that cheerleading is *not* a sport. A decision that's sparked a national debate and has cheerleaders everywhere saying "bring it on.

Cheerleading is athletic, backbreaking, and competitive, but not a sport? The federal judge called cheerleading "underdeveloped and disorganized"

His sticking point? Cheerleading doesn't have a "playoff system to winnow a final champion" he ruled a university cannot recognize their cheerleading squad as an official female sport.

One study found college cheerleaders were as fit as olympic soccer players and gymnasts and cheering accounts for nearly three quarters of all catastrophic Injuries experienced by female college athletes.

Which may be why the judge did leave some wiggle room. He says "competitive cheer may, sometime in the future, qualify as a sport."

As a former high school and college cheerleader, I'm not happy about this! Let me hear your thoughts. Should cheerleading be considered a sport?
