Bossier Schools Superintendent D.C. Machen is pleased to announce the tremendous progress reflected in the 2011-12 School and District Performance Scores released today by the Louisiana Department of Education.
  Nine schools improved one letter grade; the number of schools receiving an ‘A’ doubled; and the District Performance Score increased from a 102.1 to a 111.6, raising Bossier Schools’ overall letter grade from a ‘C’ to a ‘B.’
  “This could not have been accomplished without the hard work, dedication and due diligence of our teachers, students, parents, employees and stakeholders all working collaboratively to ensure that we provide the most enhanced educational opportunities for our students, challenging them to excel and achieve their utmost potential, ” said D.C. Machen, Superintendent of Bossier Schools.
Showing significant gains were Airline, Benton and Parkway High Schools. The three schools went from a ‘B’ to an ‘A.’ Maintaining A’s from the previous year are Stockwell Place, Legacy and W.T. Lewis Elementary Schools. It is also important to note that no schools dropped a letter grade and no schools failed.
Vicky Lynch, Supervisor of School Improvement and Accountability, credits the district’s STEM initiatives, Dual Enrollment, Senior Project, credit recovery and higher graduation rate as important factors in the high schools’ improved scores.
A high school’s graduation index, which is a reflection of the quality of the graduate, accounts for 30-percent of its School Performance Score. The assessment index comprises the remaining 70-percent of the SPS, and is a measure of students’ performance on End of Course tests, which included Algebra I, Geometry, English II and III and Biology.
“We pledge to our stakeholders that we will strive for even greater improvement for the future. We know that our successes will continue because of their continuous investment in our students and our desire to effectively fulfill our responsibilities that equate with such excellence,” Machen added.
