Fox hole
POSTED: 2:30 pm CDT August 25, 2010UPDATED: 4:34 pm CDT August 25, 2010After getting hammered again by humorist and top critic Jon Stewart, it's high time Fox News own up to it: that its second largest shareholder is a Saudi prince whose charity has donated to the so-called "Ground Zero" mosque. But, far as I can tell, Fox remains silent. And that's wrong.Fox News has been out in front, questioning how the mosque and Islamic community center will be funded. Could terrorists or money from terrorist countries be used? It's a valid question, is it not? Since we're not getting answers from the imam? But for Fox News not to disclose that a Saudi prince/News Corp. shareholder is a contributor when they do those segments is journalistically dishonest. And if the Murdoch family didn't make their producers aware of it, they are now. So why the silence? All they have to do is disclose it. Just as any news organization should when one of their own makes the news.Example: Let's say the owner of my tv station decides to run for political office. Anytime we would cover a campaign event, we would disclose that he is the owner of KTBS, Inc. Basic, honest journalism. As someone who frequently watches Fox News, I'm very disappointed. And I have to question everything I see and read there now. This won't make me stop watching. Some of my favorite journalists, analysts and personalities are there. Bill O'Reilly at the top. Bill Hemmer, Martha McCallum, Megyn Kelly, Shepherd Smith. I even like the Fox & Friends crew, who perhaps have been hammering on the mosque funding question the most. Not that you can take everything as gospel from a crew that ad libs and spouts off on live tv, as the morning show hosts do. But this controversy is eroding "The Most Trusted Name In News."
