Tuesday, September 6th of 2011 is a day Rachel and Trey Touchstone will never forget.
Rachel, who was 32 weeks pregnant, was on her way to work when she was hit head-on by another driver.
The impact of the accident caused her placenta to erupt cutting off oxygen to her unborn baby. When she arrived at LSU hospital, doctors preformed an emergency C-section.
When Rachel got out of surgery they were able to spend time together with Sarah, only 36 hours, but moments they'll cherish forever.
It's been a long road and not a day goes by that this young couple doesn't think about the sweet life lost.
"It's been tough. We have our good days and bad ones, it's getting to where the good days out number the bad ones. Everyday we think about her and talk about her", says Trey.
The Touchstones want to give back to the hospital that helped them through the most difficult time of their life.
They're working to raise money to buy an infant transport system for LSU Health Shreveport Neonatal Unit. It's a stretcher for babies.
The infant transport system they have now is older and they're in need of an updated one.
You can help raise money to buy one of these lifesaving devices by taking part in 'Run for Sarah'.
The 5k walk/run is Saturday morning at 9:00. The race begins and ends at Zocolo on Ashley Ridge Drive.
