ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has warned against putting the brakes on economic stimulus measures too quickly, saying that would weaken the economy.
In prepared remarks ahead of a Saturday news conference, Geithner says that "unemployment will rise, more businesses will fail, budget deficits will rise, and the ultimate cost of the crisis will be greater" if expansionary measures are stopped too soon.
Geithner says that U.S. job numbers out Friday showed it is still "a very tough economic environment."
He says that a statement from finance officials from the Group of 20 rich and emerging countries "reflects a very broad consensus that growth remains the dominant policy imperative across our economies."

Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers and their families near the site of the worst mass shooting on an Army post in the United States.
The Bushes made their private visit to Fort Hood's Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night. Bush spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood's military leaders and hospital staff for the "amazing care they are providing."
An Army psychiatrist, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, is accused of killing 13 people and wounding 30 in a shooting rampage Thursday at a Soldier Readiness Processing Center on the post.
Hasan was wounded by a civilian police officer and was taken into custody.

Veterans Day is still a few days away but that's not stopping local bikers from honoring those who serve, and have served.
The Veterans for Veterans biker event is being held today from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center on East Stoner Avenue in Shreveport.
The family-friendly motorcycle ride is free to the public, and has activities like a bike show, a silent auction, music by Marty Haggard, food and much more. There will also be a blood drive and flu shots available to veterans.
All of the money raised at the event goes toward the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center.
Several bikers also took time this morning to sit down with KTBS 3's Bob Griffin and discuss the event. O.B. Obryan says that veterans fought for the freedom Americans have today, and it's important to thank them whenever possible.

The Navy is commissioning its newest battleship with a bow forged from steel that once held up the World Trade Center.
The USS New York is to be placed in active military service during a ceremony on a Manhattan pier Saturday morning. Naval officials say the steel from the trade center attacked on 9/11 symbolizes that the United States will always persevere.
The $1 billion warship was built near New Orleans by workers who themselves survived Hurricane Katrina.
Just before the commissioning, a memorial to 9/11 heroes will be unveiled by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, New York Gov. David Paterson and Bill White, who's president of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
The memorial is also made of steel from the fallen trade center.

Several hundred people gathered at a base stadium where the Army's chief chaplain offered prayers for families and victims of the shooting rampage that left 13 dead and 30 wounded at Fort Hood, Texas.
Chaplain Douglas Carver told those a the Friday night vigil -- many dressed in fatigues and black berets -- to "remember to keep breathing ... keep going."
God Bless America and Amazing Grace were sung as husbands wrapped their arms around their wives, babies cried and old men in wheelchairs bowed their heads.
It was the first community gathering since the killings.
