DOTD in the process of re-opening roads
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that it is in the process of re-opening I-49, I-220, and the Benton Road Overpass to the traveling public. DOTD expects all roads to be open by mid-day.
Notification of openings will be announced.
During winter weather conditions, motorists should:
- reduce speed
- plan for additional travel time
- avoid distracted driving
- provide additional spacing between vehicles to allow for longer stopping distances
Motorists should be aware that ice will form on bridges and overpasses before the roadway. Icing of bridges, overpasses, and elevated surfaces can begin to occur when the temperatures near 35 degrees.
Travelers should also be on the lookout for black ice---a thin, transparent layer of ice accumulation that can be visually hard to detect on bridges, overpasses, ramps, and in shady spots.
As always, DOTD reminds motorists to buckle up and refrain from drinking and driving.
