Mother Agonizes Over Missing Daughter

12-year-old Amber White Left Home on Tuesday

Shreveport police on Tuesday continued their search for 12-year-old girl Amber White, who has been missing since Sunday -- with authorities and the girl's family worried that she might have left home willingly but gotten in over her head.

Police on Monday filed kidnapping charges against Henry E. Lee of Lash Street.

The charge does not allege the girl was forcibly abducted. Because of the child's age, enticing or helping a child under the age of 13 leave home with the intent of hiding her from her parents can constitute aggravated kidnapping under Louisiana law.

Amber was last seen Sunday afternoon near her mobile home in the 6900 block of Buncombe Road. Her parents reported her missing after she did not return home from a trip to the neighborhood pool.

Detectives said they got a tip that a girl matching Amber's description got into a dark blue 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass with Louisiana license plate SZS 307. That car, which police believe was driven by 19-year-old Brandon Player, was later found in a parking lot on Milam Street in downtown Shreveport and has been impounded.

Amber's mother, Karen, said she doesn't believe her daughter intended to run away, although her daughter asked to go to a Soulja Boy concert on Sunday night but was told no.

"She understood, and when we said no she was OK with it," White said.

White said her daughter knew Brandon Player through a friend. She's not sure her daughter willingly got into the car.

Even if her daughter left on her own, White said, she believes she would be home by now. Amber was looking forward to going back to school after being home schooled most of last year, she said.

"No matter what she's done -- if she did have a play in any of this -- I can forgive her for anything," White said. "But I need her alive to forgive her.

Lee, 25, was arrested Monday after police went to a house in the 1500 block of Lash Street in a search for the missing girl. Lee was booked on charges of aggravated kidnapping of a child. Police had gone to the house after arresting Brandon Player, of West 70th Street, earlier in the day for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Amber is described as 5-foot-1 and weighing 140 pounds. She has brown eyes and reddish-blonde hair and was last seen wearing a green "Soulja Boy" T-shirt, cut-off jean shorts and a navy blue-white-and-brown crop jacket. Police said she girl might have changed clothes and could be wearing a black tank top and gray-and-burgundy plaid pajama bottoms.
