Amber White Found Unharmed

Authorities Believe 12-year-old Caught Up In Events Beyond Her Control

Amber White, the 12-year-old Shreveport girl who went missing over the weekend, was found unharmed early today after she was dropped off at a convenience store.

Shreveport police would not say if Amber, who reportedly got into a car with at least one young man the day she disappeared, had been held against her will. Her parents said their daughter told them she was not free to go.

But police insisted on calling her a victim -- not a runaway -- in what appeared to be a whirlwind of events that were beyond a child's comprehension and control. Amber was taken advantage of by a group of young adults, authorities said.

Authorities have filed aggravated rape charges against one of the two young men arrested the day after her disappearance, alleging he had sex with a child under the age of 13. Authorities believe Amber was taken to more than one location during the two and a half days she was missing.

Authorities said they expect to make at least one more arrest.

They have not released details about who dropped the child off at the convenience store and left.

"If you helped keep Amber away from her parents in any way, shape, form or any fashion over the past two and a half days, we're coming after you," Police Chief Will Shaw said at a news conference. "We will not lose sight of the fact that at the heart of this case is a 12-year-old little girl who, no matter where our investigation leads us, is the true victim."

Amber was dropped off about 1:30 a.m. at the Triple J on Mansfield Road. She tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with her father, Lee, to tell him to come get her. She then called a friend of his, who alerted authorities and the father, Lee White said.

She was gone when patrol officers arrived at the convenience store. They called White as he took his daughter home and told him to pull over and wait for them. Amber was taken to police headquarters, Shaw said.

Two young men were arrested on Monday -- one for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and the other on child-rape charges.

Henry E. Lee, 25, of Lash Street faces charges of aggravated rape. Brandon Player, 19, was booked for contributing.
