Shreveport Airlines to Review Prices

Delta and American agree to look at prices

The head of a committee in charge of coming up with a game plan to bring a low cost carrier to Shreveport, says two airlines have said they will look at their air fares.

John Hussey says Delta Airlines has told his committee members it will consider its fare structure, while American Airlines told them it would do some homework.

Air fares in and out of Shreveport's airport are consistently higher than smaller, nearby airports like Longview and Alexandria.

Hussey says he's confident the airlines will look at them. But he can't guarantee anything will change.

Airport officials say they face a similar battle and talk to the airlines on a regular basis, but with no luck.

Next month, the task force will get what's called a leakage report. It takes a look at how many travelers from the area are passing the Shreveport airport, and instead using other nearby airports.
