Heavy Rains Were Remnants of Tropical Storm Bonnie
POSTED: 3:41 pm CDT July 27, 2010UPDATED: 6:26 pm CDT July 27, 2010 Remnants of tropical storm Bonnie moved through the ArkLaTex late Tuesday morning and early afternoon, dropping an inch and a half of rainfall in some places during a deluge that lasted just over an hour.
The waves of showers and thunderstorms had moved out of Shreveport-Bossier by mid-afternoon, although there was a chance of showers and thunderstorms through the evening.
Mostly cloudy skies are forecast for Wednesday, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service said. Highs are expected to be in the mid 90s.
Barksdale Air Force Base got 1.59 inches of rain late Tuesday morning and early Tuesday afternoon. Just over half an inch of rain fell in downtown Shreveport. Two inches of rain fell in Carthage, Texas, in an hour and 15 minutes.
No injuries were reported but some streets in Shreveport were down to one lane in each direction until the water could drain off.
Bonnie hit the Gulf Coast over the weekend but fizzled. The remnants that moved through the ArkLaTex over the past couple of days were the upper levels of the storm.
