What if you could get to Dallas in less than two hours or to the east coast in half a day. Amtrak and many east Texas and northern Louisiana communities are taking the "what if" and making it a reality.

When many people think of speed an Amtrak train probably doesn't come to mind, but soon that could be the fastest way to travel.

A partnership between Amtrak, Union Pacific and TXDOT is making a higher speed rail a reality and officials say possibly with in 10 years, you could see Amtrak trains running 80 to 105 miles per hour.

The funding for the higher speed rails are a combination of grant money from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the communities that the proposed track will go through. The rails are not only expected to have an up front job and economic impact, but help spur economic growth in communities across the country, provide faster and more energy-efficient means of travel, and establish a new industry in the U.S. that provides stable, well paid employees.
