Coast Guard to Re-enact Katrina
Rescue Operations
3rd Annual Water Resource
Festival:
May 16 & 17, 2008
Noon, Saturday, May 17th, on the Red
River near the Shreveport’s Texas Street
Bridge, the Coast Guard
will re-enact the Katrina Rescue operations of 2005, using the boats and
helicopter similar to the ones featured in “The Guardian” movie filmed in
Shreveport-Bossier starring Kevin Costner.
On May 16 and 17 from 10a.m. to 4p.m.
the Louisiana Boardwalk, LLC, in
conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Aquatic &
Wildlife Education Foundation will host the 3rd Annual Ark-La-Tex Water Resource Festival. The purpose of the Festival is to promote
boat & water safety and educate the public about topics concerning the Red River.
Special
attractions for the kids include alligator tales, water safety prizes, and
fish identification classes,
plus, life jackets to be given away
on Saturday. Local, state, and national
agencies will be represented, with changes to boating regulations and
inspections available.
The festival is
free to the general public at the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City and will
feature information booths, literature,
and presentations on topics
such as: boat & water safety, fish biology, fly fishing, waterfowl,
weather watch, disaster preparedness, water quality, alligator tales,
amphibians on the Red River, and River
history and commerce.
On Friday,
May 16, 2008, school groups will participate in the 3rd Annual
Water Resource Festival, from noted experts who will present information on
subjects such as: water resources and water quality, boat and water safety,
fish biology and I.D., waterfowl on the river, weather, and coastal
restoration.
