Center Police Officers have arrested 29 year-old Shaketha Cartwright for the murder of 5 month old baby Keilly Hoyt.
"She had fought for life so hard that she was a gift from God. That's the reason I give her the nickname Angel because she was an angel." Marilyn Fields is baby Keilly's grandmother. Her son, Keilly's dad, didn't want to speak on camera but says they can't believe that Keilly was taken from them so soon.
"We're very hurt, and I'm still very hurt. But I'm going to be there for Shakeitha because I just feel like something mentally broke her down." Fields says, she just spoke to baby Keilly's mother, 29 year old Shakeitha Cartwright, the day officers say baby Keilly was murdered. "Yesterday morning, Shakeitha called me and I could tell she was feeling kind of down. She called me and was trying to get in touch with my son to say that the baby was sick and wasn't hardly breathing and after that she called the ambulance."
Center police officers say first-responders worked to save baby Keilly before taking the infant to the hospital. There, doctors pronounced the 5 month old dead from mulitple injuries. After interviewing family members, officers arrested Cartwright for the murder of baby Keilly. Fields says they don't know where to go from here. "It's hard on the family, i know it's been hard on my son and very hard on her because she was a good mother. I really don't know, only God knows."
Officers say they are upgrading the Shakeitha Cartwright's charge to capital murder due to the severity of the injuries to baby Keilly. The nature of those injuries from a preliminary autopsy and full autopsy findings are pending. Cartwright's bond has been set at $500,000.
