SHREVEPORT, La. -

She only lived one day, but Sara Claire Touchstone has touched hundreds of lives.

"Happy birthday, Sara!"

It was a little odd -- a group of grown up sings happy birthday to a machine.

But this machine has a name and a story. It was the first Tuesday after labor day and Rachel Touchstone was 8 months pregnant.

"A reckless driver hit me head on. It scared me. I couldn't feel my baby move."

"It was horrible. It was suppose to be the happiest day of our lives."

Rachel is rushed to the LSU Trauma Center.

"I remember getting an emergency cat scan. They stopped the test because the baby's heart beat had dropped beating. They took me to get an emergency c-section."

Rachel delivers a little girl named Sara.

"Several times they didn't think she was going to pull out. She kept fighting."

For a day and a half, Sara battled.

"The NICU staff was wonderful. They lets us give her a bath. We held her until she passed away. Time stopped as I held her. Nothing else mattered except for her. She was beautiful. She looked like an angel."

Trey and Rachel bury their little girl and life goes on, except....

"We didn't want for people to forget Sara."

So the Touchstones decide to keep Sara's memory alive by doing something for other babies."

"It's our hope that though our tragedy a bunch of other babies will be able to be saved."

Donations pour in and in June, they hold a run -- the Run for Sara. Hundreds show up, many of them strangers who had just heard the story.

Tens of thousands of dollars pour in and one year later to the day she was born, they sang happy birthday to a state of the art neonatal transport device, called Sara.

The NICU transport team now armed with the best money can buy, will have her initials on their uniforms from now on.

"We know that Sara will be forever in our hearts. She will never be forgotten and will forever be our angel as well. We guarantee we will do our best to keep her memory alive."

So the little girl who never saw her first sunrise or thunderstorm will give that chance to untold babies yet unborn."

"If we can change other peoples lives the way she has impacted ours, then she will have done something no one can forget."

"Thank you to our family and friends for being here this whole year. We love you and we love Sara. Happy birthday."
