One Arkansas teen is killed and another injured in Fourth of July accident.
It happened around 9:30 Wednesday night in the community of Buckner, just outside Stamps.
Lafayette County Chief Deputy Pete Richardson says Justin Smith and Zackery Ellis, both 17 years old, tied 300 sparklers together with electrical tape.
He says the teens were trying to make a homemade sparkler bomb.
"They ignited the fireworks and were attempting to put a bucket over it when it blew up prematurely," said Richardson.
Both teens were transported to a Magnolia hospital where Smith later died.
Ellis is still being treated for his injuries.
Richardson says remnants of the fireworks were found 25 feet away from where it was lit.
ATF agents will be investigating.
Meanwhile, resident Peggy Henry says her heart goes out to the families.
"It's just real heartbreaking, everyone around here is shook up over it," said Henry.
