9-year-old Matthew Wallace thinks all kids with special needs should know what it feels like to ride a bike.
Matthew has no feeling from the waist down, and with no control of his legs, can't ride a regular bike. The Shreveport chapter of AMBUCS made that possible by giving Matthew a special therapeutic bicycle.
Matthew is thrilled that he can ride bikes with his friends now. "My best friend, he was like, awe dude that was sweet!" Matthew's mother, Lisa, fought back tears of gratitude. "As a mom, it's been wonderful for my heart to see that and I just want to express my gratitude to all the people who play a part in blessing our kids like that."
Matthew is one of 35 people in this area to whom AMBUCS has given bikes. There's a waiting list for them. The bikes range from $400 to $1,000.
There's also a demand for more members. If you're interested in joining, show up at one of the meetings. They're held every third Thursday night of the month at 6:30 at Nicky's Mexican Restaurant in the Red River District in Shreveport.
