Oscar-nominated actress Margaret Avery is making her home in Shreveport these days.

She's in town rehearsing for a local production of "The Member of the Wedding."

Sunday, Avery attended a showing of "The Color Purple" at the Robinson Film Center.

Avery's peformance in the 1985 film won her the academy award nomination.

Avery was in Shreveport last year shooting the movie "Welcome Home Roscoe Henkins." The actress says she couldn't resist coming back.

"The people here are so warm and friendly and even if they don't think you're a celebrity, they're still good. So I've had a nice time and I really looked forward to coming back," says Avery.

Avery's new production will show July 16-20 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.
