Air Force leaders said today they expect to announce a decision about cyber command in early October.

The Air Force's new leadership earlier this month put a decision on cyber command on hold while they review it.

Barksdale Air Force Base is the provisional headquarters for cyber command and is considered a frontrunner for its permanent headquarters. A civilian research facility next to Barksdale is planned.

Local leaders say they remain confident cyber command will be a reality and the current hold is just part of the selection process.

Senior officers and newly appointed Air Force Secretary Michael Donley met today to discuss several issues related to the Air Force, including cyber command.

They also talked about a training facility for airmen. Both Barksdale and Arnold Air Force Base are on the short list for that facility.
