A Natchitoches Parish man was killed Sunday when a pickup in which he was riding ran off the road and hit a tree, ejecting him into the path of an oncoming car.

The wreck happened about 4:40 p.m. on Louisiana 156 west of Calvin in Winn Parish.

Killed was Jimmy Griffin Jr., 49, of Goldonna, a passenger in the pickup.

State Police said the Dodge pickup, driven by John Martin Jr., 37, of Winnfield, ran off the road, hit a tree and began overturning. Griffin was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, troopers said. He was then hit by an oncoming car.

Martin was not wearing a seat belt, either, and was critically injured, troopers said.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident, troopers said. Toxicology tests and charges against the driver are pending, troopers said.

No one else was injured.
