Arkansas state prison officials say an inmate has been strangled and his cellmate is the suspect.

Department of Correction spokeswoman Shea Wilson says 22-year-old Matthew Scheile was found dead in his cell at the Cummins Unit in Grady about 1 a.m. Saturday after his cellmate told a prison guard that he had strangled Scheile.

Wilson says a motive for the crime was not immediately known and that the Arkansas State Police will be asked to investigate.

Scheile had been at the Cummins Unit since June to serve a 4-year sentence for failing to register as a sex offender.
