ArkLaTex residents watch Presidential Inauguration

Some ArkLaTex residents got a larger than life look at the 2013 presidental inauguration ceremony as a local movie theater ditched the silver screen for a red, white, and blue affair.

Robinson Film Center opened its doors for a special big screen showing of the presidential swearing-in  for the second time since their own grand opening in 2008.

"I will always watch it, but I'm thrilled to watch it in this sort of setting on a big screen," says RFC founding board member Carolyn Nelson. "I think it's very important to broadcast and to show these sort of things. [It is] partially for the people downtown and who work in the courthouse, who don't have a way to view it in this really grand manor."

Mary Moore brought her grandchildren downtown for the Krewe of Harambee parade but decided to sit in on the inauguration. She is showing the younger generation a piece of history.

"We have an African-American president for the second time," Moore says of the screening. "So that's important to us and what it means to history in the United States.

Moore is part of only a handful of attendees at RFC, mimicking the smaller crowds in Washington DC this year versus 2008's inauguration. The theater offers the service regardless of attendance levels out of a sense of civic duty.

"For the Robinson Film Center, it's really just an opportunity to allow the community to gather and just watch a moment in the nation's history," says RFC Executive Director Alexandyr Kent.

Robinson will open for another free screening of the inauguration ceremony in January 2017.

Long before then, the theater has small screen event on their schedule. Robinson will show the academy awards live Sunday, February 24.
