SHREVEPORT, La. -

An alleged gunman is behind bars this morning accused of firing several shots outside a downtown night club.

At approximately 3:18 a.m. on September 22, 2012, Shreveport Police Officers responded to reports of shots being fired outside of a downtown night club located near the 600 block of Commerce Street.

On officers arrival there, they interviewed multiple witnesses who were present at the night club when the shooting occurred.

Witnesses advised authorities that a male subject had just been denied entry into the club and was asked to leave the establishment by security officials there.

The man, later identified as 30 year old Eddie Jefferson of the 100 block of Gavin Lane in Shreveport, reportedly attempted to instigate a physical confrontation with security guards before finally being made to leave.

Upon leaving the club, Jefferson reportedly arrived at his vehicle, retrieved a handgun and began discharging multiple rounds into the air.

Immediately following the shooting, Jefferson was seen fleeing the scene in a blue Ford Expedition.

Responding officers quickly apprehended Jefferson following a traffic stop on his vehicle on Clyde Fant Parkway near Stoner Avenue.

While investigating the traffic stop, officers located a .357 handgun discarded on the side of the roadway along Clyde Fant Parkway.

Authorities have reason to believe the gun was used in the shooting.

Jefferson was taken into police custody following the traffic stop and later booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of illegal use of a weapon.

There were no injuries reported in this incident.
