Authorities: Be smart while shopping

On the biggest shopping day of the year, not everyone is looking in store windows to snag a deal.

Thieves are lurking in store parking lots, ready to snatch your belongings.

We walked with Shreveport Police Officer Kevin Lefeat through the Kohl's and JC-Penny parking lot.

In about five minutes, Officer Lefeat found several shoppers who left their car unlocked  or left items, like purses and shopping bags, out in the open ready for someone to take.

"If you can hide the item, put it in the trunk. Lock your doors, secure your items and maybe they will see that and go on to the person who wasnt paying attention," advises Officer Lefeat.
