New Orleans, LA -

The Coast Guard says it has approved plans to investigate a new sheen spotted near the site of BP's Deepwater Horizon disaster.

The sheen was spotted several days after the company capped and plugged an abandoned piece of equipment that was believed to be the source of an earlier sheen.

The Coast Guard says robot submarines will inspect the rig's wreckage and other places near the site of BP's deadly 2010 well blowout to identify the source of the persistent sheen.

On Oct. 25, BP and the Coast Guard said no oil was seen leaking out of a discarded steel container after it was capped and plugged. On Nov. 2, however, BP reported a sheen in the same area.

The latest effort to identify the source is to begin Monday.
