Shreveport, LA -

Bank on Shrveport is a new initiative to help people transition to using a full fledged bank instead of check cashing companies and pay day loans to take care of their money matters. City officials say 11% of Shreveporters either don't have a bank or aren't using banks as much as they should. This means people are turning to check cashing stores or pay day loans for things that a bank could help them with. Officials say over a lifetime, people who use alternative financial places pay almost $40,000 dollars in a lifetime just in check cashing fees because they may have had a checking account that has since been closed out, because it was overdrawn.
