Texarkana, Tx. -

The Texarkana, Texas Police Department would like to warn citizens of a new phone
scam that has arrived in the area in the past few weeks. Most of these calls appear to
target the elderly citizens of Texarkana. A caller advises a person that they have won a
cash prize from Publisher’s Clearinghouse. However, before any cash can be received,
the citizen must purchase a “green” card from Wal-Mart worth $500 and give the caller
the number on the back of the card. By the time the unsuspecting elderly person
realizes something is wrong, they have lost $500 and there is no Publisher’s
Clearinghouse prize either. The Department would like to advise citizens that if they
ever do actually win a cash prize, they will never be asked to supply any money up front
in order to claim that prize.
