A sour economy is affecting expandion plans in Bossier City.

Next week, the city council will vote on a $125 million dollar bond issue that would be used to expand the water treatment plant and other utilities.

It is expected to pass but the bonds won't be issued right away because interest rates are too high.

When the rates drop to around 4 or 5 %, the bonds will be issued.

"It would double the capacity of the city's water treatment plant and then also make some improvements including a membrane filtering system that will dramatically increase the taste of Bossier City water," said Mark Natale, city spokesman.

The city hopes to start work on the plant as early as next March.
