Bossier Schools Superintendent D.C. Machen is pleased to announce this year’s Teachers of the Year for 2012-13.
Each school nominated its own representative for this coveted honor.
Nadine Charity was named as Bossier Parish Schools’ Elementary Teacher of the Year. Charity has been in education for 39 years and is currently the art teacher at Platt Elementary in Haughton. She is the 2012 Louisiana Art Educator of the Year, a National Board Certified Teacher and was chosen to visit Japan in 2007 by the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund.
Afiya Code is the district’s Middle School Teacher of the Year. Nominated on behalf of Greenacres Middle School, Code was recently appointed as Curriculum Coach for T.O. Rusheon Middle School. She has been in education for 14 years, four of those in Bossier Parish.
Sarah Stevenson teaches English II and Honors English at Airline High School and is this year’s High School Teacher of the Year. The 19-year educator believes her job “is to guide students, make them think, and build their confidence levels so they can find the paths to success that are right for them.”
Code went on to be named Bossier’s Regional Teacher of the Year.
“I don’t take the selection of Regional Teacher of the Year lightly because there are many great educators in our parish and region,” Code said. “I hope I can continue to encourage students to be the best they can be to help them become college and career ready for our society.”
