There's shocking new information about the triple murder suspect out of Bossier City.

Monday, Robert McCoy, Jr. tried to hang himself in his jail cell in Idaho. Police say he was found hanging from his bedsheet. Jailers cut him down and started CPR until medics arrived. They took over resuscitation and McCoy regained consciousness. He was rushed to the hospital, treated, then returned to jail. He's been placed on suicide watch until he comes back to Louisiana.

Police say McCoy killed his estranged wife's parents and her teenage son. He was captured Friday night in Lewiston, Idaho after hitchhiking his way across the country.

KTBS 3 News has learned, McCoy called a woman in Claiborne Parish the night of the killings and told her he had "just killed a bum". He reportedly wanted to go to Claiborne, but she said no. She called Claiborne authorities who immediately contacted Bossier police.

Police say McCoy had a gun on him when they caught him, but they say he gave up without a fight. They think that gun may also be the one used in the homicides.
