BOWIE COUNTY, Tx. -

There have been nine confirmed cases of West Nile in Bowie County, Texas, including one fatality.
Now both city and county officials are taking precautions to inform the public about the dangers of the virus.
The Texarkana-Bowie County Family Health Center called a press conference Wednesday.
The purpose of the meeting was to disseminate information on precautions and symptoms associated with the virus.
Officials tell KTBS 3 News that educational materials on the disease from the state health services department will be distributed through area schools, senior centers, day care centers, and other local outlets.
Also in an effort to prevent the spread, the Texarkana, Texas Environmental Services Unit has increased the rate of spraying for mosquitoes and larva from two to three times per week.
The recent West Nile virus outbreak is the largest ever seen in the United States, according to new numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As of August 21, 38 states had reported human infections of the virus.
The cases reported to the CDC total 1,118, including 41 deaths.
