Several suspected car thieves led police on a high-speed foot chase outside LSU hospital.
It was like a scene from an action movie as nearly a dozen Shreveport police officers ran across streets, through parking lots, through woods and for a very cut and bruised officer Brian Lauzon, over several tall fences.
Lauzon was at the Taco Bell on Kings Highway when he saw four men inside a stolen Oldsmobile. Lauzon says the men gave him the eye, then sped off, right into a fence.
After losing control, the four men took off running. Lauzon took off after them and in no time at all, backup arrived. Police combed the entire area, but the suspects got away. Police say it's only a matter of time before they are apprehended.
Just minutes before they were trying to get those suspected car thieves off the streets, police were busy taking some drugs off the streets. They say the suspects made it easy for them.
When officers stopped a man for not wearing a seatbelt, they discovered a lot more than just a moving violation. Officers say they found a crack pipe that had not been used, lying in plain view.
But Officer Christian Hicks says it was about to get used. When they searched the car, officers found two crack rocks inside a pill bottle.
"I've worked shootings and I've actually worked a homicide over one rock of cocaine since I've been on the police department. This is two. This is a really violent drug and I like taking it off the street," said Officer Hicks.
Across town, it wasn't crack police took off the street, rather two bags of marijuana.
A Centenary police officer pulled a man over for running through a Red when he found the green. Officer Chad Dailey's K-9 "Fonz" found it hidden underneath the dashboard.
The man arrested for the crack was nabbed on Ledbetter street. Police have been working in that area at the request of citizens who have voiced concerns about drug activity.
Police arrested four people in the same area last week. If you have concerns in your neighborhood, call police and let them know about it.
