Ground has broken at the first new school in Caddo Parish School District in 17 years.
The Magnolia Charter School of Excellence is slated to open by the start of the 2013/2014 school year.
The school will be run by Charter Schools USA.
The company is a for profit organization and based out of Florida.
The Caddo Parish School Board granted the charter back in the summer.
The board will have some oversight over the school and the company will have to give the board quarterly reports.
The school is open to every Caddo Parish student grades K-6th grade at no cost to parents.
Applications are currently being accepted. An informational meeting is scheduled for 6p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Hall in downtown Shreveport.
