The Caddo Parish School Board met to discuss the coming school year's budget today. Board members were presented with a partially complete budget plan for the 2013-14 school year. However, it was pointed out that the state has cut around $14 million from the MFP General Fund. That comes with an expected increase in retirement and health insurance costs. Also, $1.5 million is needed to fund state mandated teacher salary increases. The board also heard an update on the coming tax renewal you'll vote on later in May. This is the school boards' first meeting concerning the budget.
