Camp Minden explosive evacuation halted
More bunker space needed for explosive material
The relocation process for millions of pounds of improperly stored explosives at Camp Minden has run into a snag because authorities say they have run out of storage space.
Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton says authorities are searching for more bunker space- possibly out of state- to store the military propellant called M6.
Crews have already moved more than 6-million pounds of M6 after an accidental explosion in October drew community concern and a Louisiana State Police investigation.
Explo Systems Inc. had an Army contract to demilitarize the material and rents a space at Camp Minden.
