Church blesses pets

First United Methodist Church in Bossier City held it's annual "Blessing of the Animals" today. It's a time set aside to bless our pets and acknowledge the special relationship we have with them. Reverend Tom Edmonds says the blessing is a Catholic tradition that recognizes Saint Francis, the patron saint of animals.

"Other churches have sort of borrowed that idea," he said. "Even though we might not consider him a saint, we still think he is a wonderful guy and just his relationship with animals gives us the reason to do the blessing of the animals."
