Downtown Shreveport is playing host to the annual Cinco De Mayo celebration. But the highlight of the event was the 2nd annual Cinco De Mayo Health Fair that took place Saturday afternoon.
Hundreds of people turned out for the event to get educated and informed about how to live a healthy live. The health fair had many nonprofit and health care agencies come out for the event. They provided information on topics, such as tobacco-free living, epilepsy, organ donation and nutrition.
The health fair also offered free dental screenings by Ocean Dental employees and blood sugar checks by David Raines Community Health Center staffers.
Health Fair Chairperson Ebru Waters says this years event doubled in size compared to the previous year. She says that is a true testament of the communities involvement.
"Everybody wants to reach out to the hispanic community, be involved because this is our society, this is our community and we all have to do our part," said Waters.
