The Shreveport City Council this week will begin considering an amendment to the city liquor ordinance that would make it illegal to drink alcohol on vacant lots.

The proposed ordinance's sponsor, Council Calvin Lester, said he has gotten numerous complaints about the problem.

The proposal will be up for its first reading at Tuesday's regular meeting. It could come up for discussion at today's agenda meeting.

The council could not vote on it for two weeks.

City ordinance already prohibits drinking in public outside the Red River District, bars and at specially permitted places.
