JEFFERSON, Tx -

One East Texas town may be searching for new leaders. Two Jefferson officials turned in letters of resignation this week.

Police Chief Hollis Shadden and City Administrator Shawn Farrell resigned on Monday. Officials say the two men were frustrated with the town's mayor.

"They were feeling some pressures, mainly from our mayor and they had just come to the end of their ropes," said Joe Lee, a Jefferson city councilman. "I think it's just a problem of communication. I know our mayor loves our community, we just have to work out these communication probelms."

More than 100 residents showed up to Tuesday night's council meeting in support of the two men. Officials say Mayor Jeff Fratangelo offered a public apology to Farrell. Shadden did not attend the meeting.

They say Shadden's resignation was effective immediately but Farrell will take some time to reconsider his decision. The city council is scheduled to meet next Tuesday to discuss the matter again.
