SHREVEPORT, La. -

You can't tell it from the curb, but the design work is well under way on a streetscape project for Kings Highway near LSU Health Sciences Center.

Shreveport City Councilman Jeff Everson (Dist. B) says the project would improve streets, sidewalks, lighting and aesthetics along the Kings Highway corridor to encourage private investment in the medical district.

"What we want to do is really define that area as the medical district and to make it appealing for continued investment and location in that area," Everson said.

The project is still in the design phase. The city has allotted $500,000 for the design. The construction of the project is estimated to cost about $6 million. No start date has been given. Public meetings are planned to gain input for the streetscape.
