Shreveport city council is considering an ordinance that will ban drinking in vacant lots. Some vacant lots have become breeding grounds for trouble.

Councilman Calvin Lester says the problem has gotten way out of hand and it's time the city put a stop to it once and for all.

At Goldsmith's on the corner of Ford and Pierre, Monk Dog changes more tires in a day than most of us will ever change in a lifetime.

Across the street from where Dog's busy changing flats, Lester's busy trying to change the law.

Lester wants to put a stop to drinking in vacant lots. He calls these "open door bars" an eyesore.

It's an ordinance Shreveport Police Sergeant Rita Caldwell says she'd be more than happy to enforce.

Caldwell says officers have definitely seen their fair share of arguments in these "open bar" atmospheres.

Last weekend, police say there was a deadly shooting over an argument that started in a vacant lot.

The council is expected to talk more about the proposed ordinance during the August 5th meeting.
