SHREVEPORT, La. -

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) on Tuesday hosted a public meeting to present roadway safety improvements on La. 511 (East. 70th Street) in Shreveport.

The upcoming project will widen the eastbound and westbound lanes of La. 511 between Fern Avenue and Creswell Road and construct a center turn lane. The project will also resurface the roadway from Creswell Road to La. 523 (Line Avenue).

Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2013 and take approximately one year to complete.

Residents and business owners in the area went to the Tuesday meeting to ask questions and give input on the project.

The project will cost $4.4 million and is being funded with federal and state safety funds.
