One of the hardest hit areas during Tuesday night's storms was Shreveport's South Highland neighborhood.
At Normandy Village, located just south of Mall St. Vincent, residents today started ripping up wet carpet and bagging up damaged household goods.
The city brought in front-end loaders and dump trucks to haul things away. Insurance adjusters started arriving and more are expected on Friday.
Nancy Young got three feet of water in her condo.
"The refrigerator turned over and was floating in the kitchen," she said. "The sofas were floating all over the house and I was trying to catch things as they went by."
Disaster-assessment teams from the Red Cross are going door to door in damaged areas of the city, passing out basic cleaning kits to flood victims to help get them started.
The Red Cross is also offering medical and prescription assistance to storm victims.

FEMA and state representatives are scheduled to be in the area on Friday to see if the damage is extensive enough to warrant state and federal disaster assistance.
