Church groups and local civic organization took to the streets today lending a hand on this day on and not a day off holiday. In honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., members of the Praise Temple Baptist Church and the Northwest Louisiana Community Development Corporation used this as a day on and not off to clean up the community on this day of service. They call it sparks or spontaneous positive act of random kindness. "Today we're cleaning up trash, tomorrow we're gonna deal with crime, we're gonna deal with the young people who are in need of special attention and our elderly," said Bishop Larry Brandon, of Praise Temple. Students from LSU-S also took advantage of the day off to volunteer their services. Today they help to refurbish the Centerpoint Community Services building on Fairfield Avenue in Shreveport.
