The DeSoto Parish School System has released the following statement on current weather conditions in the area:
Leadership of the DeSoto Parish School System has been heavily monitoring the current weather event. With situations as they presently exist, we believe the safest place for our students and employees is within the walls of our schools receiving an education from our great teachers. The forecasts we’re reviewing shows temperatures increasing, albeit slightly, throughout the course of the day with temperatures topping out around 35 degrees by the end of our school day. In the meantime, our local Police Jury and the Louisiana DOTD are preparing our roadways through sanding and salting. In addition, we are in active communication with local law enforcement agencies as we monitor conditions in the field. At this time, we have no intention of an early dismissal of schools as we allow the temperatures, salting, and sanding the opportunity to improve the roadways. Should we need to make an adjustment to our current planning, we will notify our schools and news agencies. Please be thoughtful and prayerful for those traveling throughout the day and into the evening.
