Time is running out for Bossier City residents to registered block parties and other events for the 2012 Bossier City Night Out Against Crime. The deadline to sign up is this Friday, September 28, 2012.

Bossier City Night Out Against Crime takes place Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will operate in the same fashion as National Night Out which Bossier City had in the past taken part annually on the first Tuesday of August. However, the city is now observing a similar event during the month of October when the weather is cooler and more comfortable for residents.

Bossier City Night Out Against Crime is designed to: (1) promote crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership; and (3) send a strong message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime. Between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on October 2, 2012 residents in neighborhoods throughout Bossier City are asked to turn on outside lights and spend an evening outside with neighbors and police officers.

Persons planning a Bossier City Night Out Against Crime event that requires the closure of a city street must submit a petition to the Community Services Division of the Bossier City Police Department with 51% of the residents’ signatures of the street to be blocked. Petitions will be subject to approval by the Bossier City Police Department. Street closures will be limited to single blocks and will not include major thoroughfares so as not to impede emergency vehicles and regular traffic.

Residents must also fill out a Bossier City Night Out Against Crime registration form and return it to the Community Services Division at the address on the form. Registrations may also be faxed to the telephone number listed on the form. All forms and petitions must be returned no later than September 28, 2012 so that block party visits from police and fire personnel may be scheduled efficiently.
