Getting dozens of Beaird Company employees back to work. Mayor Cedric Glover says that's his number one goal. Friday night he asked those workers to meet him to discuss their future.
"It's like being in an abusive relationship, and some of you know what that's like. Men and women. somebody that's beating and slapping you upside the head for so long, for so many years, has given you just a little, just enough, just enough to keep you going. Dragging you on every time you work up enough courage to where you'll say I'm through, I'm fixing to go, it's over, then they come and give you a little sugar just to keep you, there you go," Glover said.
The mayor says that describes how life has been, trying to deal with Beaird Company executives. Now he says the city has had enough. Glover says the city has given the company deadline after deadline to get things back in order, and to get employees back to work. But, he says there's still no resolution. Many of the workers have been out of work since October of last year. Another company, American Wind Solutions, has recently set up shop on the property which is owned by the city, but the mayor says that company's agreement with beard has now been terminated. The Beaird Company has until midnight, October 15th, to vacate the property. Mayor Glover says he plans to meet with workers again after that.
