Don's Seafood and Steakhouse restaurant, a Shreveport dining institution, is closing on Sunday after 43 years in business.

The restaurant will cease operations at 4 p.m. after the Sunday lunch.

The restaurant, located at Kings Highway and Highland Avenue, has fallen victim to people eating out less and competition from other restaurants, particularly those sprouting up along Youree Drive, manager Curtis Johnson said.

Johnson said Don's has an aging customer base and had tried to change some of its demographics.

Don's has half a dozen other restaurants in South Louisiana. They will remain open and a new Don's is opening in Gonzales, Johnson said.
