An East Texas student is in trouble with law, accused of bringing a handgun to school.
Monday an off-duty officer found the weapon in the backpack of a Marshall ISD student.
At 8 a.m., authorities say the officer, who works security for the school district, found a 9mm handgun, a magazine with ammunition and some clothes in a student's bag.
The student has been identified as Jawone Washington, 19.
He attends the district's Alternative Education Program.
He was booked into the Harrison County Jail, charged with having a weapon in a place they are prohibited, a third degree felony.
